Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is currently conducting an internal staff engagement and consultation process on service changes at St David’s Community Hospital, including proposals which include closure of the Lansdowne Ward.
We urgently call on the Welsh Government to prevent the closure of the Lansdowne Ward. For older patients, leaving a general hospital is not the end of their care. They need specialist rehabilitation, dignity, compassion and time to recover safely.
The exceptional team on Lansdowne Ward works together to help patients regain their independence, return home safely with the care they need, or move to appropriate nursing homes. We meet required standards and provide an invaluable service to patients.
More details
We urge the Welsh Government to investigate Lansdowne Ward’s proposed closure and demand answers about where these vulnerable elderly patients will go. What alternative beds and rehabilitation services will be available? How will their safety, dignity and recovery be protected? Please ensure a full impact assessment is carried out before any decision is made. Our elderly patients deserve answers, security and the care they need.
