Question
What steps is the Welsh Government taking to ensure that people with neurological conditions such as Huntington's disease are supported by a healthcare professional who acts as a single point of contact to coordinate their care?
Answer
Answered by Deputy Minister for Social Care, Mental Health and Women’s Health (Delyth Jewell)
The Welsh Government’s aim is to ensure that people of all ages living with or affected by a neurological condition, have timely and equitable access to high-quality services to enable them to live their best lives. We set out our aims in the Quality Statement for neurological conditions.
The Quality Statement for Mental Health outlines the planning expectations for the delivery of mental health services in Wales, including how we support people with a physical health diagnosis.
Health boards and NHS trusts are expected to use Quality Statements to underpin the planning and delivery of high-quality services in line with clinical standards and guidelines, including from the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE). They are supported to do this by NHS Performance and Improvement.
