Question
Will the Minister confirm whether cost-per-patient and construction costs are taken into consideration when deciding on the location of new rural GP practices and whether factors such as rurality, isolation, public transport availability, and potential for services to be provided closer to home are factors in such decisions?
Answer
Answered by Minister for Health and Social Services
There are a wide range of factors, not limited to those listed, which are taken into account by health boards when deciding upon a new surgery. However the overarching consideration is the need of the population and to ensure any new investment represents value for money and fits within the health board’s service and estates strategy.
