Question
Will the Minister provide a progress report on the establishment of the Legal Innovation Lab Wales at Swansea University and provide a breakdown of how the £5.6 million of funding announced on 30 October 2019 has been spent so far?
Answer
Answered by Minister for Economy
Despite hampered by the impact of COVID, which is reflected in the overall spend profile, the operation is making good progress and has exceeded its key targets in some areas.
The expenditure claimed as at February 2021 includes £291,625 Capital costs and £486,960 Revenue costs totalling £774,568.
The refurbishments to deliver the main research facilities will be complete by summer 2021 and elements such as the ‘Law Clinic’ and ‘Legal Innovation Suite’ are already finished and delivering against key targets.
Despite setbacks due to the pandemic, Swansea University has secured new researchers and entered a number of collaborations with international partners, resulting in income from research being ahead of profile, as indicated below. Further collaborations are in development.
