Question
What steps is the Welsh Government taking in conjunction with Natural Resources Wales to consider compensating residents affected by flooding during Storm Dennis?
Answer
Answered by Minister for Climate Change
The Welsh Government has supported all households impacted by flooding since the February 2020 Storms. We have worked with Local Authorities to make payments of £500 and £1000 available to people whose homes were flooded.
In 2021-22 the Welsh Government is investing over £65 million in flood risk management, the largest amount invested in a single year since devolution. This funding will be used to develop flood alleviation schemes in many of the communities impacted by flooding since February 2020. We are also funding the delivery of Property Flood Resilience (PFR) measures by Risk Management Authorities, to help communities reduce the impact of any future flooding.
Our National Strategy for flood and coastal erosion was prepared in light of the February 2020 floods, which allowed us to incorporate lessons learnt in its immediate aftermath.
