Question
What recent discussions has the Minister had about plans for the Magor and Undy Walkway Station?
Answer
Answered by Deputy Minister for Climate Change
The Welsh Government sees rail improvements as a key part of securing the delivery of our public transport agenda. However, as you will be aware, rail infrastructure and the funding for it is non-devolved and is the sole responsibility of the UK Government. The Burns Commission identified support for a station at Magor as part of their recommendations and we have endorsed all of the recommendations of the Commission.
I met with Monmouthshire County Council earlier this year regarding this station proposal and their bid to the UK Government ‘Restoring Your Railways’ fund for their proposals. We continue to wait for the UK Government to take a decision on this and other proposals for rail infrastructure improvements in Wales.
