Question
What steps is the Welsh Government taking to tackle flooding in Borras Park in Wrexham?
Answer
Answered by Minister for Climate Change
Our approach to reducing the risks associated with flooding and coastal erosion are set out the new National Strategy for Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management in Wales which was published in October 2020.
No funding applications have been received from Wrexham County Borough Council for works to tackle flooding at Borras Park, Wrexham. The Local Authority have confirmed that whilst there have been a number of flooding issues in Borras, either one-time events or external and carriageway flooding, many have been, or will be, resolved through in-house maintenance or via their minor works framework.
Our post storm repairs grant supported Risk Management Authorities with repairs to flood risk management assets following flooding in December 2020 and January 2021. We provided Wrexham County Borough Council with £285,000 grant funding for works at Caia Park, Gamford Lane in Rossett, Hampton Way in Acrefair and Maes Meredydd in Pontfadog.
