Question
What action is the Minister taking to ensure residents of developments that are not adopted by their local authority, and are instead maintained by management companies, receive an appropriate level of services and has the Minister considered introducing council tax reduction schemes for those affected?
Answer
Answered by Minister for Finance and Local Government
The Minister for Climate Changes is leading the delivery of our Programme for Government commitment to “ensure that estate charges for public open spaces and facilities are paid for in a way that is fair”. Council tax is not a service charge but a local tax which contributes towards the general funding for a wide range of local services. It is not directly linked to the receipt of specific services. Our council tax reduction scheme targets the available support towards low-income and vulnerable households.
