Question
Will the Minister outline the current position of NHS Wales on social distancing and testing in hospitals, as well as outlining when any changes will be brought in, in light of the UK Health Security Agency's new advice on infection and prevention control?
Answer
Answered by Minister for Health and Social Services
Last week the Chief Nursing Officer and Deputy Chief Medical Officer wrote out to the NHS in Wales providing the “Operational guide for the transition of healthcare environments in preparation for Autumn/Winter 2021/22 incorporating COVID - 19 Measures”.
Contained in this was advice on physical distancing which suggested that at least 1 metre remains as a key Infection Prevention and Control measure to reduce transmission of COVID. Organisations may also wish to retain the 2 metre markers located on floors reinforcing the message that in healthcare physical distancing is still important, particularly in high-risk areas.
The recent UK Health Security Agency’s advice on pre-admission testing and cleaning will be considered by the Nosocomial Transmission Group chaired by the CMO & DCMO and advice disseminated as appropriate.
As a general note, as case rates are still high, a cautious and proportionate approach remains across all healthcare settings.
