Question
Will the Minister list the further education colleges the Welsh Government is working with in 2021/22 to raise awareness of the behavior that could lead to wildfire blazes?
Answer
Answered by Deputy Minister for Social Partnership
The Welsh Government does not work directly with further education colleges on the issue. We do fully support and fund the Fire and Rescue Services’ targeted and general awareness-raising programmes to address wildfires. This work ranges from educating the public about safe behaviour when out enjoying the countryside to more general and focused interventions to divert young people from fire-setting.
It also includes working with farmers and landowners on safe land management practices and with young farmers clubs to embed these practices early on.
We continue to work closely with the Fire Service, the Police, Local Authorities, Natural Resources Wales, the Met Office and others, to better understand, prevent and respond to the risk of wildfires in Wales.
