Question
What steps is the Welsh Government taking to support patients who are suffering from a pelvic organ prolapse?
Answer
Answered by Minister for Health and Social Services
Welsh Government expect health boards to provide appropriate support to patients suffering from pelvic organ prolapse in line with NICE Guidelines. Prolapse is a very common condition and although mild prolapse often causes no symptoms and doesn’t always require treatment, patients should see their GP if they think they have a prolapse.
The Women’s Health Implementation Group (WHIG), set up in March 2018, has established a network of pelvic health and wellbeing coordinators to play a vital role in addressing the interlinking issues across areas of women’s pelvic health, including pelvic organ prolapse. There is now a dedicated Pelvic Floor Co-ordinator service in each health board which provides both clinical advice and “lifestyle clinics” in response to women’s needs and signposts and supports them on their treatment pathway.
