Question
What action is the Minister taking to ensure eligible people with migraines can access NICE-approved calcitonin gene-related peptide antibody medicines?
Answer
Answered by Minister for Health and Social Services
Erenumab, Fremanezumab and Galcanezumab are human monoclonal antibody medicines that bind to the calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) receptor, inhibiting the function of CGRP, and thereby preventing migraine attacks.
Erenumab has been available in Wales through the New Treatment Fund since 11 December 2020. Fremanezumab has been available since 12 March 2020. Galcanezumab has been available since 15 October 2020.
However, when NICE recommended them they did so with restrictions, which are outlined in the links below.
