Question
Will the Minister provide details of future diabetic retinopathy treatment provided by Swansea Bay University Health Board, as COVID restrictions are eased?
Answer
Answered by Deputy Minister for Climate Change
A new approach to reduce the waiting times for patients referred from the diabetic retinopathy screening service has been successfully introduced in Swansea Bay UHB. This has resulted in the backlog reducing from 561 in February 2021 to 289 in December 2021. The service is available to all eligible patients in Swansea Bay and is provided by community optometrists in the Swansea area.
