Question
Will the Minister provide a timeline as to when atezolizumab (Tecentriq) will be approved and available through the Welsh NHS?
Answer
Answered by Minister for Health and Social Services
Atezolizumab (Tecentriq®) is already available in Wales for a number of indications, including some forms of lung cancer as well as urothelial cancer.
The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) is in the process of evaluating atezolizumab as an adjuvant therapy for resected non-small-cell lung cancer and is expected to publish its recommendations in July 2022. Whilst we await NICE’s appraisal, an agreement has been reached with Roche that makes atezolizumab available for this indication with immediate effect.
Should NICE recommend atezolizumab for this indication it will be made routinely available to patients in Wales within 60 days as part of the New Treatment Fund.
