Question
When will owners of homes with combustible cladding have access to a compensation and remediation scheme?
Answer
Answered by Minister for Climate Change
The Welsh Government’s policy in respect of building safety including the use of dangerous cladding on buildings centres on the remediation of any defects. Remediation and addressing safety issues is what will help to make affected buildings and the people who live in them safe. Therefore, we are not proposing the development of a compensation scheme.
In September I launched the first phase of the Welsh Building Safety Fund to help understand the issues in our buildings and from there to develop the right support. We have received 248 expressions of interest (EoIs) to date and using the initial findings from these EoIs, we are developing the next phase of our programme of support. As our buildings are all different, the safety issues affecting them also vary. There are a number of different ownership models to take into consideration too. We must therefore, ensure the solutions we develop reflect that complexity. Further details of the next phase of support will be made available as soon as it is finalised.
