Question
How will the Welsh Government manage the changing nature of qualifications in Wales for pupils in Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4?
Answer
Answered by Minister for Education and the Welsh Language
Learners currently in Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 will continue, as planned, to sit their qualifications under the current qualifications system.
Learners currently in Key Stage 2 will experience the new qualifications. These qualifications are being developed to build on our exciting new curriculum which will roll out in secondary schools from 2022 and 2023. The new suite of qualifications will be taught from 2025 with first awarding under these qualifications from 2027.
Qualifications Wales are actively engaging with learners, teachers and other partners to co-design these new qualifications. Primarily through their Learner Advisory Group, Qualifications Wales are ensuring learners themselves are part of and can input their ideas and experiences into the design of the future qualifications.
