Question
Will the Minister set out what support will be provided for students sitting A-levels in 2022, given the impact of the pandemic on the last two years of their education.
Answer
Answered by Minister for Education and the Welsh Language
I recognise that learners, and the education sector as a whole, are currently still facing significant challenges and further disruption to teaching and learning this term.
Before Christmas, I announced a £24million package of support targeted at learners in exam years, particularly those who have been most disadvantaged by the disruption. This funding includes funding to support additional teaching and exam preparation, specific funding to target poor attendance and £9.5m will fund support for school, FE and Sixth Form learners with the transition to the next stage of their education or career.
This will ensure that all A-level learners are given the opportunity to consider the full suite of options available to them. Funding is being provided to access resources and provide personalised support in terms of applications and learning support as they transition to both FE and HE.
Welsh Government have partnered with Qualifications Wales, WJEC, Careers Wales and E-sgol to develop a 12 week learner-focused communications campaign. This campaign provides a one-stop shop for learners, parents and teachers to find exam resources, live revision sessions, tips and tricks to help prepare learners for their exams and assessments. This will result in a ‘pob lwc’ day, where the whole of Wales can get behind our learners to send them our best wishes.
