Question
What are the next stages for considering Electroporation (Nanoknife) for approval in Wales in order to treat prostate cancer?
Answer
Answered by Minister for Health and Social Services
The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) states the current evidence on the safety and efficacy of irreversible electroporation for treating prostate cancer is inadequate in quantity and quality. It recommends this procedure is only used in the context of research.

NICE is currently updating this Interventional Procedure Guideline. Until such time that NICE offers an alternative recommendation, the Welsh Government expects health boards in Wales to only offer this procedure as part of a research study.
