Question
What progress has the Welsh Government made towards meeting its four aims on the sustainable management of natural resources approach as outlined by Natural Resources Wales?
Answer
Answered by Minister for Climate Change
The Welsh Government is committed to the Sustainable Management of Natural Resources (SMNR), as set out in the Environment (Wales) Act 2016. Natural Resources Wales (NRW) report on progress towards achieving SMNR through the State of Natural Resources Report (SoNaRR) which they do by focusing on the four aims. The 2020 SoNaRR report provides the latest findings.
Examples of progress towards these four aims include more than £150 million of investment in renewable energy and energy efficiency; restoration of more than 600ha peatland per year; large scale flood prevention investment protecting 4500 homes and businesses; creation and restoration of woodlands and hedgerows; development of clean air legislation to create healthy places for people; and further success in meeting our world leading recycling targets.
