Question
Will the Minister provide a breakdown of the number of children’s social workers in Wales in 2021-22, 2020-21, 2019-20, 2018-19, 2017-18?
Answer
Answered by Deputy Minister for Social Services
For the period up to 2018-2019, numbers and full time equivalents for social workers in services for children and young people can be found at these links:
Staff of local authority social services departments by local authority and post title (2014-15 onwards) (gov.wales); and
Whole time equivalent staff of local authority social services departments (all years) (gov.wales)
It was announced in the 2018-19 that the update for 2019-20 would be the final year of this data collection, before being taken over by Social Care Wales. However, due to the onset of the pandemic this was one of several releases which were paused at that point therefore 2018-19 become the last collection published in the links above.
Social Care Wales has subsequently taken over the collection of information on staffing in social care. This has resulted in a new annual collection covering both local authorities and private social care providers. The first output from this collection will be available spring 2022. Information and contact details for Social Care Wales can be found on their website: Home - Social Care Wales | Social Care Wales
