Question
What are the Welsh Government's targets for lung cancer screening in Wales?
Answer
Answered by Minister for Health and Social Services
There is not currently a national population screening programme for lung cancer in Wales or across the UK. The UK National Screening Committee (NSC) is currently consulting on a draft recommendation to introduce lung screening for people aged 55-74 with a history of smoking. We expect a decision by the UK NSC in June 2022. In the meantime, we have commissioned Public Health Wales to consider the implications of a positive recommendation and to scope potential models that would enable Wales to successfully deliver a targeted lung screening programme in the coming years.
