Question
Further to WQ84752, will the Minister outline the reasons why the Welsh Government does not support the red bag scheme for care homes?
Answer
Answered by Deputy Minister for Social Services
As referenced in my previous response, we are committed to better coordinating care and support for people at greater risk of needing urgent care, as well as supporting individuals to return home from hospital when ready. We are doing this in Wales through the national six goals for urgent and emergency care programme which seeks to support people to access the right care, in the right place, first time: https://gov.wales/sites/default/files/publications/2022-02/six-goals-for-urgent-and-emergency-care.pdf
Ensuring that we learn from other relevant projects, such as the red bag scheme in England, will be a key facet of this work and we will be considering the outcome of the evaluation of the red bag scheme in England in development of service improvement in Wales.
