Question
What assessment has the Welsh Government made of education projects such as the Horizon 2020-funded Our Space Our Future project and how it can be continued in Wales to support the new Space Wales strategy?
Answer
Answered by Minister for Education and the Welsh Language
The Our Space Our Future consortium is an excellent example of the top flight collaborations that have been funded through the EU Horizon 2020 programme.
We recognise the vital importance of the collaborations, the knowledge, the innovation and the people supported through Horizon 2020 as well as educational initiatives which encourage STEM activity, such as Our Space Our Future. These have a key role to play in shaping Wales’ future economy, including the growth of the space sector.
These projects were funded directly by the European Commission, however I understand Our Space Our Future are looking to engage with policymakers to discuss further initiatives that foster STEM careers, as well as provide relevant information about space-related topics that will be useful to build cases for advocacy.
We would welcome further engagement to discuss this as well as how we can build on their success and ensure their findings have an impact on Welsh students.
