Question
How will the Welsh Government support the tourism industry given that staycations in Wales are expected to fall?
Answer
Answered by Minister for Economy
We use a wide range of evidence to respond to changing market conditions, including tracking consumer domestic trip intentions via our monthly tracker survey and our industry barometer.
Based on current information, domestic trips will continue to be a strong feature this year. We will launch a domestic marketing campaign later this month, designed to support pandemic recovery. This will complement other recovery support activity, such as the launch of the TXGB platform and digital skills collaboration with Superfast Business Wales.
More broadly, Welcome to Wales: Priorities for the Visitor Economy 2020-25, sets out our vision and ambition for the sector and outlines how we will encourage increased spend in our economy, spread benefits to all parts of the
country and tackle seasonality by positioning Wales as an all year round destination.
Funding this year will focus on essential capital investment, such as the £2.9m Brilliant Basics programme; revenue support for our marketing campaigns; skills and recruitment initiatives and quality grading of tourist accommodation.
