Question
What is the target timescale to reset the implementation of elective orthopaedic surgery to 100 per cent of pre-pandemic levels?
Answer
Answered by Minister for Health and Social Services
I expect health boards to be working to reinstate all activity, including orthopaedic activity as quickly as possible and to make use of all available capacity to achieve this.
Management information for March 2022 shows orthopaedic inpatient / daycase activity was around half of what it was in March 2019, but more than double the activity in March 2021.
I expect to see this improve further now that Infection Prevention and Control measures are closer to those in place pre-pandemic and as health boards instigate plans to reduce waiting times.
