Question
What checks are in place to ensure that local councils are following the Local Government Act 1972 when recording their meeting minutes?
Answer
Answered by Minister for Finance and Local Government
The provisions in the Local Government Act 1972 in respect of council meetings were updated by the Local Government and Elections (Wales) Act 2021. It is for councils and the appropriate officers to ensure they operate within the framework set out in the legislation.
Where individuals have concerns about the implementation of these arrangements, they should bring the matter to the attention of the council for their consideration.
Depending on the nature of the concerns individuals may also bring the matter to the attention of the Auditor General for Wales and the Public Services Ombudsman for Wales.
