Question
What additional resources has Welsh Government made available to fire authorities in order to meet the additional demands of including multistory buildings of less than 11m in their risk-based inspection programmes, as requested by Ministers?
Answer
Answered by Deputy Minister for Social Partnership
No new requirements have been placed upon Fire and Rescue Authorities concerning multistorey buildings under 11 metres. All buildings of any height (except private dwellings) have always been liable to inspection under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, and the Fire and Rescue Authorities conduct those inspections on a risk basis and continue to do so. To fund this and other core functions, Fire and Rescue Authorities set their own budgets and levy contributions on Local Authorities, without any involvement from the Welsh Government.
