While the UK Government chose to ignore those most vulnerable to the impact of the energy crisis, in last week’s mini-budget, we are investing in improving the energy efficiency of lower income homes.

As part of our plan to tackle fuel poverty published in March 2021, we will continue to invest in our Warm Homes programme.

Our Warm Homes Nest scheme also offers a range of free, impartial advice to all homes in Wales and a package of free home energy efficiency improvements following recommendations of a whole house assessment where the eligibility criteria is met.

Between 2009-10 and the end of March 2021, more than £394m has been invested to improve home energy efficiency through the Warm Homes programme, benefitting more than 67,100 lower income households. The current programme runs until September 2023.

As of the end of March 2021 (latest figures), more than 15,000 lower income households in Anglesey, Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire, Gwynedd and Wrexham have benefitted from home energy efficiency measures through our Warm Homes programme.

Welsh Government officials are working closely with Welsh local authorities to capitalise on the funding available under the UK Government’s Energy Company Obligation scheme.

The Local Authority Home Improvement Loan is an interest free loan, made available to householders who wish to make improvements to their property to make it warm, safe and secure. Householders should contact their local authority about the availability of the loan in their area.
