In July we launched a new National Event Strategy for Wales, aimed at expanding the contribution that events already make to the seven goals of the Well-being of Future Generations Act (Wales). The strategy has three key themes, one of which is ‘All of Wales’, as we want to see events reach the whole of Wales – geographically and across all genres that appeal to visitors and communities alike.

We already have a strong history of attracting and supporting major events, including to mid Wales, for example the Hay Festival, Other Voices Cardigan and the International Sheep Dog Trials. In addition, some stages of the Women’s Tour of Britain were held in the Black Mountains this year.

We will also continue to provide vital support for the development of indigenous events across all genres such as the Young People’s Village at the Royal Welsh Showground and Machynlleth and Aberystwyth Comedy Festivals, which takes place next weekend.

We will continue to work with public and private sector partners across Wales to secure and grow events and to develop the sector more widely.
