Question
What action is the Welsh Government taking to support volunteer drivers and other community transport providers through the cost-of-living crisis?
Answer
Answered by Deputy Minister for Climate Change
The approved mileage allowance payment rate of 45p per mile that volunteer drivers can claim is a tax rate that was set in 2012 by the UK Government.
We continue to provide grant funding to local authorities in support of their tendering for socially necessary local bus services and community transport provision in according with their determination and prioritisation of local needs.
It is for the local authorities to determine the split of the grant between local bus services and community transport. In addition to the financial support provided by the Welsh Government, Local Authorities provide support from their own budgets for such services.
