Question
What discussions have the Welsh Government had with colleagues from the UK Government and the other devolved administrations about UK-wide action to rectify fire safety issues in high-rise buildings?
Answer
Answered by Minister for Climate Change
We have regular contact with the UK Government and other devolved administrations in respect of building safety. I also engage with my counterparts in UK Government and devolved nations through a regular Inter Ministerial Group, in which I have raised the issue of building safety. My officials meet their counterparts in UK Government and devolved administrations every two weeks to discuss building safety as a whole.
In addition, my officials also engage with the UK Government and devolved administrations to discuss specific areas of work where appropriate. These also take place frequently, and provide an opportunity to learn from each other, understand any potential implications of new policies and learn from and share best practice.
Whilst we work with other governments where our policy objectives align, we have chosen to go further in some respects and take a different approach in other respects. This reflects our commitment to taking a holistic approach, our different policy landscape and the Welsh context.
