Question
Will the Minister provide a breakdown, by local authority, of the £20m recently announced to support learners with additional learning needs?
Answer
Answered by Minister for Education and the Welsh Language
The Welsh Government has given funding to local authorities to enable them to optimise pre-16 learning environments for those with Additional Learning Needs (ALN), to increase accessibility and support learning and pupil wellbeing. The grant has been allocated on a formula basis to reflect both the number of pupils and schools within each local authority area, based on a 70% pupil numbers / 30% number of schools split.
Eligible expenditure includes the following capital costs:
• Upgrading facilities, learning environments, equipment and physical resources
• Purchasing new equipment or physical resources
• Works to improve inclusivity of facilities and learning environments
A breakdown of local authority allocations is provided in Table 1 below.
