Question
What assessment has the Welsh Government made of the use of intelligent liver function tests in primary care?
Answer
Answered by Minister for Health and Social Services
In reference to reducing the stigma faced by liver disease patients I refer to my answer to WQ86304.
The Liver Disease Implementation Group is aware of the intelligent liver function test system developed in Scotland which shows much promise. In Wales, we have developed the All-Wales Abnormal Liver Blood Tests Pathway which provides a national approach for the early identification of liver disease. Since its launch one year ago there has been an increase in liver disease and cirrhosis diagnoses and just over a quarter of the GPs in Wales have used the educational resource that supports the pathway.
