Question
What action is the Minister taking to address the concerns raised by residents on Spytty Road, Lliswerry, regarding the artificial light nuisance caused by the electronic advertising board which was granted planning permission by the Welsh Government?
Answer
Answered by Minister for Climate Change
I have not been involved in this matter. Responsibility for artificial light nuisance lies with the Local Authority Environmental Health Department through provisions in the Environmental Protection Act 1990.
Local Authorities have powers to deal with statutory nuisance as appropriate in cases of this kind. They also have powers to deal with these sorts of matters through the planning system if any conditions applied to the grant are not being complied with. I recommend you approach Newport City Council directly in relation to your constituents concerns.
