Question
Will the Minister provide an update on the legal protections that disabled people have to ensure that they are safe from any discrimination while seeking employment?
Answer
Answered by Minister for Social Justice
The Equality Act 2010 includes protection from discrimination for disabled people while seeking employment as well as when they are in a job. This includes the requirement for employers to provide reasonable adjustments at the interview stage, and in how they advertise their jobs. The Public Sector Equality Duty places further requirements on employers within the public sector to eliminate all forms of discrimination, including in their workforce. Beyond this Welsh Government has committed to incorporate the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Disabled People into Welsh law, further strengthening protections for disabled people in all aspects of life, including employment.
