Question
Will the Minister provide a breakdown of Welsh Government funding, by council area, for sporting facilities since 2018?
Answer
Answered by Deputy Minister for Arts and Sport, and Chief Whip
The majority of direct Welsh Government investment in sports facilities is channelled through Sport Wales, our delivery partner. Since 2018 we have provided £22.9m in capital funding to Sport Wales to invest in sporting facilities.
The Welsh Government also runs a number of programmes of its own which have a positive impact on the sports facilities estate, including the Sustainable Communities for Learning Programme and Community Facilities Programme. Total programme expenditure through our Sustainable Learning for Communities Programme over the period is £565.1m across all local authorities and colleges in Wales. This includes expenditure for both new build and refurbishment works on primary, secondary, SEN schools and college facilities. In many cases this has also included sport facilities. It is not possible to provide a breakdown of the investment made in sporting facilities due to the structure of the programme.
Information on expenditure through the Community Facilities Programme and through Sport Wales is set out in the tables below.
