Question
What has been the total income raised by the Single Use Carrier Bags Charge (Wales) Regulations 2010 for the current financial year; and each of the last five financial years?
Answer
Answered by Minister for Climate Change
The Single Use Carrier Bag (Wales) Regulations (2010) requires businesses with 10 or more full time equivalent employees to keep records which detail the amount of net proceeds from the sale of single use carrier bags and the uses to which the net proceeds have been put. These records must be made available to a member of the public or a Welsh Minister within 28 days of receiving a written request for this information. In addition, businesses that are VAT registered and supply 1,000 or more chargeable single-use carrier bags in Wales in that same year are required to publish their records. The records are either published by in-store notices or on the seller's internet site.
There is no requirement to report this data directly to the Welsh Government, therefore, information on the net proceeds raised and what good causes have benefitted is not held centrally.
