Question
What assurance has the Welsh Government received from Transport for Wales that the South Wales Metro will not receive further delays past 2024?
Answer
Answered by Deputy Minister for Climate Change
There have been delays to the overall programme of work on the transformation of the Core Valley Lines due to the impact of the pandemic, the on-going global material supply constraints and the insecurity caused by the Ukraine conflict.
Transport for Wales continue to make progress with the project, with the introduction of brand new trains on the Rhymney Valley Line planned for January 2023 and have confirmed that the majority of work to transform the Core Valley Lines is now scheduled for completion in 2024.
