Question
What is the Welsh Government requirement for an autism representative on regional partnership boards and what, if any, guidance has been issued regarding the person specification required?
Answer
Answered by Deputy Minister for Social Services
Section 4, paragraph 6 of the Statutory Code of Practice on the Delivery of Autism Services 2021 – Arrangements for Planning and Monitoring Service and Stakeholder Engagement, requires the establishment of a regional autism champion role. Section 4.6 of the supporting guidance for the code sets out the profile and expectations of this role.
We are supporting a dedicated post within the National Autism Team to work directly with Regional Partnership Boards to provide guidance and support on responding to the requirements in the Code of Practice including the autism champion role and establishing regional strategic autism groups. In December we will be commissioning a two stage evaluation of the implementation and impact of the code of practice since its publication in September 2021.
