Question
Will the Minister confirm what data the Welsh Government holds on the use of vaping products by under-18s?
Answer
Answered by Minister for Health and Social Services
Findings from the School Health Research Network 2019 Student Health and Wellbeing survey state that 3% of 11-16 year olds in Wales reported at least weekly use of e-cigarettes. This can be broken down further by age group, sex, local health board area and family affluence. More information can be found here: Youth_smoking_and_vaping_in_Wales-2020.pdf (shrn.org.uk)
The National Survey for Wales captures data for 16+, for under 18s the specific age range is 16-44, of this group in the 2019/20 survey 9% reported to be an e-cigarette user. Due to the sample size no estimates for the group below 18 are available.
