Question
What discussions has the Minister had with Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board and Cardiff and Vale University Health Board to ensure that there are sufficient staff members able to provide patch pain relief?
Answer
Answered by Minister for Health and Social Services
There are a range of pain relieving patches available to those living with persistent pain. Whilst the majority can be administered by a range of clinicians or by the patient, there are particular patches which requires a pain specialist to administer. My officials have not been informed there is a specific issue in relation to this particular form of treatment.
Welsh Government officials, supported by specific clinical leads, regularly engage with clinicians within each health board responsible for persistent pain, seek assurances of their current provision and provide support where appropriate. Officials are working with all health boards to understand where areas of concern exist and to share best practice from areas where issues have been addressed. They will look to utilise these forums to ensure provision is being met relating to this issue.
In addition, the Welsh Government are reviewing the actions within our Living with Persistent Pain in Wales guidance to ensure equitable services exist across Wales.
