Answer
Answered by Minister for Climate Change
The Welsh Government is working with Local Authorities across Wales to deliver schemes under our Coastal Risk Management Programme (CRMP). Two schemes are already completed, in Aberavon and East Rhyl. Meanwhile, five schemes are currently under construction with the following expected completion dates:
• Aberdyfi –2023
• Colwyn Bay/Rhos-on-Sea –2024
• Mumbles –2024
• Penrhyn Bay – 2023
• Porthcawl – 2023
A further eight schemes are due to commence construction between now and 2024, with the following expected completion dates:
• Aberaeron - 2024
• Barmouth Viaduct Gardens – 2025
• Prestatyn - 2026
• Central Rhyl – 2025
• Hirael Bay – 2025
• Kinmel Bay –2024
• Llandudno – 2025
• Rover Way Cardiff – 2026
Once the schemes are completed, flood risk will be reduced to more than 15,200 properties. This represents nearly 30% of our total Programme for Government commitment to fund additional protection to 45,000 homes.
