Question
Following the Minister's answer to the question about the appointment of the Chief Executive of the Commission for Tertiary Education and Research in Plenary on 14 March 2023, will the Minister elaborate on why it is not possible to confirm whether a Chief Executive has been appointed or not?
Answer
Answered by Minister for Education and the Welsh Language
Over recent months, potential candidates for the Chief Executive of the Commission have been part of a rigorous selection process including a range of assessments and interviews. This process concluded earlier this month. Unfortunately, the recruitment panel was unable to recommend a candidate for appointment at the end of this process.
It is vital that the right person with the skills, values and experience required for this critical role is appointed to lead the new Commission. I have therefore asked officials to consider options around the appointment process and I expect to be in a position to outline next steps in the coming weeks.
