Question
What analysis has the Welsh Government undertaken for a single source of information on the condition of flood defences?
Answer
Answered by Minister for Climate Change
The National Strategy for Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management sets out details on how information on the condition of flood assets in Wales is managed. National Resource Wales lead on the publication and management of a National Asset Database (NAD) in partnership with the Risk Management Authorities (RMAs).
Local Authorities are required to provide updates to NRW on risk levels following investigations, updated modelling, completion of new alleviation schemes and improvements or enhancements to existing defences. This, in turn, will enable updates to the Wales Flood Map, Flood Risk Assessment Wales, National Asset Database and Communities at Risk Register and is set out in the Memorandum relating to FCERM Grants.
The first edition of this data was published at the end of 2021, NRW continue to work with RMAs to enhance and add additional detail.
