Question
What support has the Welsh Government provided to the rollout and usage of innovative new technologies, such as a bolus to track calving and a pedometer ear tag by Arwain DGC, at proof-of-concept farms in Wales?
Answer
Answered by Minister for Rural Affairs and North Wales, and Trefnydd
I previously made £4 Million of Rural Development Plan funding available, to support the control of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in animals and the environment. Arwain DGC launched on the 5 October 2021, delivering several activities, many of which, are being piloted here in Wales for the first time. Part of the project includes trialling new technology on farms, which aim to improve animal health and welfare, thereby reducing or removing the need to treat with antibiotics. Currently there are no plans for the Welsh Government to support a wider rollout of these technologies, as the Arwain DGC project has not yet concluded, and therefore the outcomes are still to be determined.
