Question
Will the Minister provide an update on the roll-out of faecal calprotectin tests to primary care settings across Wales, supporting the appropriate referral to colonoscopy and earlier diagnosis of inflammatory bowel disease?
Answer
Answered by Minister for Health and Social Services
The Welsh Government does not intend to collect or publish data on diagnostic gastrointestinal endoscopy broken down by reason for referral.
All health boards in Wales have confirmed they provide general practice with access to the faecal calprotectin test. In addition, the NHS Executive is developing a nationally agreed pathway for the investigation of inflammatory bowel disease which will support the consistent local application of this test.
