Question
How has the Welsh Government made professional development for supply teachers more accessible?
Answer
Answered by Minister for Education and the Welsh Language
Supply teachers registered in Wales can access professional learning through a range of routes and networks.
In September, we launched a new professional learning area on our digital learning platform, Hwb. The professional learning area aims to provide a single point of access to high quality, easily navigable professional learning provision that meets the needs of all education professionals, including supply teachers, and supports the education reform journey in Wales.
Supply teachers are also able to access local professional learning opportunities and events via their regional education consortia or local authority.
In addition, a new supply agency framework came into effect in September, which requires all supply agencies to offer relevant professional learning for employees.
To assist in enabling the sharing of skills, methods, and resources between supply teachers, the ‘Supply Teachers - Athrawon Cyflenwi’ Network has been established on Hwb. The network provides a digital space for supply teachers to share best practice as well as to discuss, collaborate and share resources with each other to support teaching and learning.
