Question
Will the Minister confirm a) the number of GP practices engaging with the Royal College of GP's Deep End Wales project; and b) what support the Welsh Government is providing these practices to facilitate engagement in the project?
Answer
Answered by Minister for Health and Social Services
The Royal College of General Practitioners Wales (RCGP Wales) advise that 79 GP practices working within the most deprived communities in Wales, identified via the Welsh Index of Multiple Deprivation (WIMD 2019), have engaged with the Deep End Wales project to date.
The Welsh Government has provided funding of up to £179,533 to RCGP Wales for the delivery of the Deep End project. An integral function of the project is the active engagement of GP Practices in communities affected by socio-economic disadvantage. To help facilitate their engagement in the project, RCGP Wales have established an overarching network of GP Practices and supported practice representatives to attend a number of roundtable discussions focused on sharing learning to support GPs and their practice teams working in challenging circumstances.
I look forward to the insights this project will generate as to how we can best support GPs working in challenging circumstances within our communities with the highest levels of deprivation.
