Question

Will the Minister confirm how many new primary school teachers were recruited in Wales in 2023, as well as the previous total from 2022?

Answer

Answered by Minister for Education and the Welsh Language

Data from the School Workforce Annual Census (SWAC) shows that 909 teaching posts were advertised in primary schools in Wales in 2021/22, with 852 appointments made. It is not possible to identify how many of these posts were filled by new teachers. Data for 2022/23 is not yet available.

Based on data from the HESA data record 745 people successfully qualified from a primary school level ITE course in Wales in 2021/22.
