Question
Will the Minister provide an update on the refreshed Nation of Sanctuary plan?
Answer
Answered by Minister for Social Justice and Chief Whip
We have begun the process of refreshing our Nation of Sanctuary Plan. We will engage with stakeholders who are affected by our policies, including local government, the third sector, private sector and people with lived experience. This work will continue throughout 2024 to ensure our revised plan is fit-for-purpose, meeting the needs of Welsh communities, including those seeking sanctuary.
In December 2023, Welsh Government officials attended the Global Refugee Forum alongside the UK delegation and pledged to continue our work to implement the Nation of Sanctuary vision. Our pledge can be found alongside thousands of others made globally at the Global Compact for Refugees website: https://globalcompactrefugees.org/pledges-contributions
